New Academic Year and Cats

Each time a new Academic Year begins, I get tired. Not just a little tired, but exhausted. There are so many things to do, so many things to pay for, so many things to forget, so many things.

But, there's also an excitement that is contagious. Suddenly, this flurry of activity spurs new ideas and adventures. Everywhere but with the cats.

We are greeted as we come in the door at the end of the day. First there is the "I am so glad to see you," meow. Then comes an exasperated, "Why did you leave me alone all day?" meow. "Why weren't you here to feed me when I wanted?" seems to be the cry. And, "Why didn't you come home just to pet me?" rises from around my feet as I try to unload groceries. "Don't I deserve a treat today?" says the pretty kitty as we peer in the refridgerator together.

"Pet me!" "Feed me!" "Brush me!" "Love me!" "Care for me!"

I wonder how many times I sound like that to my Heavenly Father? He has consistently done each of those things time and time again. Everytime I seek Him during the day, He's right there. He smooths the fur ruffled by the world. He feeds the empty spirit with His Word. He brushes away the tangles of sin. He loves and cares for me far better that I can care for my cats. I know that the companionship with my cats is only a small reflection of the companionship that He offers. You see, at the end of the day, I get to crawl up in His lap, make myself comfortable, and purr.

Answered Prayer

"Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man." (Proverbs 3: 3-4)

"Thou art my portion, O LORD: I have said that I would keep thy words. I intreated thy favour with my whole heart: be merciful unto me according to thy word." (Psalm 119: 57-58)

God showed the life verses He has for my son. I've been asking for awhile to know the verses that are to govern and shape my son's life. This is a great undertaking and not to be entered lightly. What joy! Now it becomes my privilige to pray these for and over my son. I'm saddened (briefly) that I did not seek God on this subject earlier in his life. But God is faithful to answer my prayer now and always. He is never late. He's been busy preparing the way.

A New Week Begins

Hello, it's been a great first day of the week. It is so wonderful how God reveals himself to us. How easy it is to find Him when we just look.

I want to share with you another blog that I follow daily. It is the amazing story of God's presence in a young life, Ashley Adams. God had used this young lady to open my heart in ways that I tried to stave off. He speaks to me through her journey in ways that are awesome. He's allowed me to see her through His eyes and by doing that He's taught me to see those around me differently. I'm still practicing this ability.

Close and Comfortable

I'm thankful for another uneventful day. Grocery shopping is done, at least for awhile. Although with a teenage son, grocery shopping will never be done. Just about the time we get it all put away, he's already finished a bag of chips, a cup of pudding, an apple, etc. And then we start all over again.

I love these days when God is so close and comfortable. I just have to be careful to not take Him for granted. His presence in a thunderstorm, His presence in the quiet, His presence in our laughter - these all are big, little things.

Well, we've finished the first week of school for this year. It's been a success! It's such a hectic time when all of us are getting ready for back-to-school. So for us to have survived without inflicting personal injury makes it a success.

Welcome to the Daily Swim

It's an adventure into my thoughts. Let's see where it goes.

So, I started with the idea of just using this as a journal. It's a place to put the "God Moments" that I don't want to forget but am willing to share. Some of them will be the day's moments while some are remembered from long ago as God allows.

The first thing I must share is that having a personal relationship with my Saviour, Jesus Christ, gives everything meaning. It was difficult to learn that I didn't measure up to God's standard of perfection and that I would some day pay a penalty for that. It was exciting to learn that God loved and continues to love me anyway. It was a simple step of faith to trust Jesus to take care of the penalty for me. It is (yes, is and continues to be) an exciting, awesome, humbling journey to live each day in a relationship with THE God that created the universe.

The blog name comes from trying to keep my head above the water in day to day life. I'm a single mom with two great (but not perfect) children. You'll hear more about them later. I work at least 40 hours a week at a public university on staff (I'm not faculty - don't have the patience to teach). Then I get to come home and take care of it. I'm actively involved in my local church. And, I've got a reading list that's way too long.
